Before the immense success that Olay is having now, Grahan Wulff first discovered its potential in his home laboratory in the 1950’s. He wanted to create a beauty product that women could feel and look beautiful with. However, these were the times where oily facial creams are contained in a polish style can.

Using his wife as his model, Wulff gained knowledge on what women really needed: youthful and beautiful skin. It was this concept that he was able to formulate the perfect solution to those ‘imperfections’. His concept of a facial moisturizer is to make it as compatible to young skin as possible.

Wulff and his wife started exploring and came up with the perfect product with pink shade and recognizable scent. His wife’s suggestions helped him in developing the perfect ‘beauty fluid’, Oil of Olay Beauty Fluid.

Working his way through the Yellow pages, Wulff was able to get help from advertising agencies to make his product known to the public. It was then that Jack Lowe got in the picture and joined the Oil of Olay team. The expansion of Olay started with South Africa and later to other countries in 1959.

In 2000, Procter and Gamble took the ownership to Oil of Olay and shortened its name to Olay, the brand we know today. The evolution of Olay from greasy to greaseless fluid becomes its ticket to its later success.
